Jinglei Brand Welding Consumable Helped Guangzhou Shipyard International High-end Shipbuilding Projects

Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited, owned by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Group (abbreviation as GSI) has been devoting into development of the luxury ro-ro passenger ships, and polar shipbuilding technology.  GSI has recently delivered the first “LNG/fuel” dual fuel high speed luxury ro-ro passenger ship in the world; and the first polar condensate tanker in the world that serves in the Yamal LNG oil and gas field.

Gintune was fortunate to supply welding consumables for both of these projects.  “Jinglei” brand welding consumable offer all series, high efficiency low and high alloy products that fit customers’ requirements.  Our products have been popular among customers in domestic and international market with stable mechanical properties and chemical composition and excellent weldability, and have been widely used in shipbuilding, offshore engineering, petrochemical industry, boiler, pressure vessel, power plants, pipe, and vehicles.

1. Welding Consumable for Luxury Ro-Ro Passenger Ship

As of by March of 2019, GSI has international orders for total of 15 luxury ro-ro passenger ships, and is considered the shipyard with the most luxury ro-ro passenger ship orders.

The first “LNG/Fuel” dual fuel high speed luxury ro-ro passengership “VISBORG”, owned by Sweden Gotland shipyard, was delivered at the end of 2018.  This ship used the most modern “LNG/Fuel” dual fuel system, is the fastest and with best performance green type luxury ro-ro passenger ship.

The building cost of “VISBORG” exceeded 1 billion RMB, breaking the record of GSI since it was first established among all those commercial ships and offshore projects ships, and received extensive attention from inside and outside of the industry.  Soon in the future, the second sister ship of “VISBORG” will be finished, and will become part of the shining stars in the Scandinavia region.

The delivery of luxury ro-ro passenger ship indicates the technical ability and building experience of GSI in this field.  Gintune is the proud provider of flux-cored wire GFL-71 in the first dual fuel high speed luxury ro-ro passenger ship “VISBORG”, and received excellent feedbacks.

Gintune’s GFL-71 is popular among both domestic and international users due to the stable mechanical properties, chemical composition and excellent weldability.  This product was certified with 10 different naval classifications, along with CE, VD-TUV.  It has been widely used in various industries, such as shipbuilding, offshore engineering, petrochemical industry, boiler, pressure vessel, power plants, pipe, and vehicle.

2. First polar condensate tanker in the world that will serve in the Yamal LNG oil and gas field

“Arc 7 Polar Class, pod propulsion, two-way ice breaker, can operate in environment under -50C, and these words can make this ship stand alone in the world.”  GSI delivered the first 44500 tone grade polar condensate tanker in the world, “BORIS SOKOLOV”, for Greece Dynacom in Guangzhou at the end of 2018.

The condensate tanker will be serving in the biggest oil and gas field project in the world, Yamal LNG project.  The ship was designed with special Arc 7 Polar Class, and can sail and provide condensate all year long without icebreakers leading the ship.  The ship has the ability of both “icebreaker” and “oil tanker”, and is a perfect combination of the technology advantages of both ship types.

As the first all industrial chain cooperation in the arctic circle between China and Russia, Yamal LNG project is an important pivot of “Silk Road on Ice”.  Before “BORIS SOKOLOV”, GSI already successfully delivered two 25000 tones grade polar heavy duty deck carriers “AUDAX” and “PUGNAX”, both serving the Yamal LNG project.  These two carriers are the only two engineering ships that can go into port of Sabetta in the arctic circle region during winter time, and had successfully accomplished close to 40 missions of transportation, provided solid support for the Yamal LNG production.  “BORIS SOKOLOV” is the third ship built by GIS for the Yamal LNG project.

Yamal peninsula is located in the northwest of Siberia, near the Arctic Circle.  There are many rivers, lakes and permafrost. Winter lasts for nine months, with a minimum temperature of -52C. The data shows that the natural gas production of Yamal peninsula accounts for about 16% of the global natural gas production, and the buried depth is shallow without hydrogen sulfide, which is a very high-quality natural energy. However, extreme conditions such as polar and severe cold are the extreme challenges facing mankind.

For this reason, Yamal LNG project has created a series of innovative technologies, such as modular plant construction and polar drilling, and has successfully overcome various difficulties in construction in the Arctic region. Yamal project consists of 142 modules, and 7 Chinese enterprises undertook 120 modules. The total weight of modules is more than 400000 tons, and the average weight of a single module is 3000-4000 tons, of which the largest module weighs 7500 tons. A single module is equivalent to the weight of an Eiffel Tower, with a height of more than 40 meters.

Gintune provided welding consumables, such as GFL-71Ni, for GSI’s 2 polar heavy deck carriers and the first polar condensate tanker in the world.  And even before these ships, Gintune also provided a large number of high quality welding consumables for 6 Chinese enterprises, that made modules in the Yamal LNG project phase one, total of more than 400000 tones.  These welding consumables were mainly used on S355NL, S355ML structure welding, and 304L, 316L stainless steel super low temperature pipe welding.
